Sadio Mané reaches a very special milestone against Crystal Palace and also sets a Premier League record. There is praise from coach Jürgen Klopp.
After five matchdays in the Premier League, Jürgen Klopp’s team (at least temporarily) greets from the top of the table, on Saturday the Reds won 3-0 against Crystal Palace.
Sadio Mané was instrumental in the victory. The Senegalese scored the 1-0 lead against the Eagles – and set a Premier League record in the process. He scored in the ninth game against Palace in a row – no player in the league had ever done that before.
Along the way, it was also Mané’s 100th competitive goal for the Reds, prompting Klopp to sing the praises of his attacker.
“People forget with these 100 goals that he worked incredibly hard, pressed high, scored goals, set up chances, so 100 goals, but there are so many other numbers that are important,” the German clarified.
Klopp added: “A huge achievement in the glorious history of this club.” Mané has played for Liverpool since 2016. In 224 competitive games, he has now scored 100 goals and set up 43 others. The goal against Palace was Mané’s third of the season in his fifth game.
