Griezmann returns to the Wanda Metropolitano

Debut in front of its new-old audience for Atletico Madrid

Antoine Griezmann’s return to the Wanda Metropolitano did not go according to expectations. The French striker, in his first match in front of his own public after wearing the Atletico Madrid jersey again, was greeted in a rather “lively” way by his fans.

In the match against Porto in the Champions League, le Petit Diable was greeted with a roar of whistles when the lineups were read and, in his case, the players available since he started the match from the bench. When the announcer announced “Number 8, Antoine Griezmann,” the crowd erupted in booing and shouting.

Better, however, went in the match when the striker came on in the second half. Griezmann entered the field and the Wanda Metropolitano was divided on what to do. Part of the crowd continued to boo him while the remaining 50% preferred to applaud and encourage him.

The 0-0 draw for the Colchoneros completed the strange night for the former Barcelona man, who surely hopes to return to the full favor of his audience as early as the next match.
